Shafaq News / The Egyptian Foreign Ministry said, on Wednesday, that Cairo asked the Ethiopian government to provide urgent clarification about the start of filling Al-Nahda Dam.
The Egyptian request comes after The Ethiopian Minister of Irrigation, Water, and Energy, Celici Bekele, announced the start of filling and storing water in the Ethiopian Dam officially, despite the stumbling agreement with Egypt and Sudan on the controversial project because of fears of its effect on the two countries' share of Nile River water.
On Tuesday, Sudan sent its final report to the African Union presidency, bout the negotiations for this subject among Sudan, Egypt and Ethiopia.
For its part, the Sudanese Ministry of Irrigation expressed on Wednesday its refusal to take unilateral measures in the case of the Dam, after Ethiopia said it had begun the filling phase.
The ministry said, in a statement that after showing news and satellite images about the start of filling Al-Nahda, the authorities were instructed to measure the level of the Blue Nile, in order to ensure the accuracy of the information.
Adding that agreement is possible if there is political will, adding that the government will follow these developments in a way that secures Sudanese national interests.
