Turkish government has imposed two-week long curfews against 26 cities and towns in the Kurdish-populated areas amid ongoing military operations against the Kurdistan Workers’ Party (PKK).

The curfews are set to go into effect from April 30 and continue until May 14, a pro-Kurdish news agency ANF reported.

The curfews will affect areas in Cewillk region, it added.

Curfews were imposed on dozens of villages and towns in the southeastern province of Diyarbakir on Wednesday (April 26) due to an anticipated new operation against the PKK.

The Diyarbakir Governor’s office said a total of 69 curfews had been imposed in the province including in the Lice and Kulp areas.

Turkey is currently embroiled in a three-decade long conflict with the PKK.

Hundreds have died since the PKK and the Turkish state resumed hostilities after the collapse of the ceasefire in July 2015.

Although the Turkish authorities insist most of these operations are over, they regularly take measures, including the imposition of a curfew on 176 villages and hamlets in Diyarbakir last month.

Southeastern Turkey has plunged back into some of its worst violence since the 1990s after a two-year ceasefire between the PKK and the state collapsed in July 2015.
