Shafaq News/ The President of the Kurdistan Region, Nechirvan Barzani, emphasized today, Friday, his commitment to what he described as "green Kurdistan", on World Environment Day.
Barzani stated in a tweet that, "On World Environment Day, we reiterate our commitment to a greener and cleaner Kurdistan and a more sustainable planet", and added, "Protecting the nature is an essential part of addressing factors that are damaging our environment, including pollution".
World Environment Day is celebrated every year on June 5. This year, the theme for World Environment Day is "Biodiversity", which is, "a concern that is both urgent and existential. Recent events, from bushfires in Brazil, the United States, and Australia to locust infestations across East Africa – and now, a global disease pandemic – demonstrate the interdependence of humans and the webs of life, in which they exist", as by the United Nations statement.
