Shafaq News / The Prime Minister of Kurdistan Region, Masrour Barzani made a phone call on Thursday to the new Federal Prime Minister, Mustafa Al-Kadhimi.
Barzani tweeted that he had a phone call with Al-Kadhimi “I spoke to Prime Minister Al-Kadhimi to congratulate him on his appointment at a crucial time for both Iraq and Kurdistan region, we are facing common challenges, I look forward to working closely with him and his cabinet “.
The Iraqi parliament granted at Thursday dawn, confidence to the government of Prime Minister Mustafa Al-Kahsimi, six months after the country remained without a government following the resignation of former Prime Minister Adel Abdul-Mahdi.
Abdul-Mahdi, who was heading a caretaker government, resigned last year after anti-government protesters swept the streets in thousands, demanding jobs and the departure of the ruling elite.
The protesters accused the political class that took power after the US invasion in 2003, which toppled Saddam Hussein, of corruption that led the country to economic devastation.
The struggle for cabinet portfolios since Abdel-Mahdi’s resignation in November has prevented two former Prime Minister Candidates from forming a government.
The majority of the attending representatives approved Al-Kadhimi's candidates for ministries including the Ministry of Interior, Defense, Finance and Electricity.
Voting on the Oil and Foreign Affairs portfolios was postponed after the parties failed to agree on candidates. The deputies rejected the new prime minister's candidates for the Justice, Agriculture and Trade.
