Shafaq News/ The Ministry of Agriculture and Water Resources in Kurdistan Regional Government decided on Thursday to ban importing tomato crop to market the local production of peasants internally.
A source in the ministry told Shafaq News, that the decision to prevent importing tomato crop into the region will come into force on 1/9/2019 and to further notice.
The source added that the ministry is currently considering banning the import of other agricultural crops permanently.
Local farmers in Kurdistan region recently complained from "substantial" material losses because of the low prices of their agricultural products due to competition of imported crops, which arrive at very cheap prices compared to the local ones.
