Shafaq News / The coordinator of international recommendations of Kurdistan Regional Government (KRG), Dindar Zebari announced on Wednesday that it was decided to conduct the first trial of ISIS elements in the mid of next year, indicating that a "national" judicial team at the level of Iraq includes judges from the region in addition to an international body that will supervise the course of investigations and trials. .
Zebari said in a statement today that it was decided to form a national judicial team at the level of Iraq to work with the United Nations Investigation Team to Promote Accountability for Crimes Committed by Da'esh (UNITAD) to cooperate and coordinate in strengthening the capacities of Iraqi judges to deal with the crimes committed by the organization that reach and according to international laws the level of (war crimes, crimes Against humanity, and genocide).
He explained that the Iraqi judicial team also includes Kurdistan Region, noting that the UNITAD team will prepare a training program for these judges because they will participate directly in the investigations and if necessary, they will attend the trial proceedings, as the first trial of ISIS terrorists is scheduled in mid-2021.
The United Nations has set up its own investigation team UNITAD to enhance accountability for crimes committed by ISIS.
The team began its activities in August 2018 and spread in Baghdad on October 29 of the same year in accordance with a legal and operational framework with 30% of Iraqi employees in it.
The team began investigative interviews with witnesses and survivors and worked on a program to analyze the mass graves, with a number of its members attending the trials of some of the ISIS defendants.
