Shafaq News — Second Deputy Speaker of the Iraqi Parliament, Bashir Al-Haddad, said on Sunday that coronavirus may be under control in Kurdistan Region but affirmed that precautionary measures are still crucial to prevent new transmissions.
The claim came in a statement that summarized a meeting of Iraq’s parliamentary Crisis Cell held on Sunday. The session was chaired by First Deputy Speaker Hassan Al-Kaabi. It discussed the latest developments in regard to the coronavirus crises in Iraq.
Haddad was quoted as saying in the statement that the steps taken by Kurdistan Regional Government (KRG) and the commitment of its citizens to the health instructions may have brought the new coronavirus disease under control.
He stressed, however, it is important to maintain efforts to limit transmission of the disease as the number of new recorded infections reduce and recoveries continue. He stated that precautionary measures in line with the recommendations of the World Health Organization (WHO) must go on.
Over the past week, the health authorities in the Kurdistan Region have had two days with zero reported infections, a potential indicator that the virus is losing momentum as the KRG continues to conduct tests to detect the disease.
