Dempsey said at a conference held by Atlantic Corporation Counsel for research and public policy in Washington , briefed by " Shafaq News " , that " Even if the opposition who is facing a difficult situation now was able to topple Bashar al-Assad , it will remain hostage to terrorism , chaos and hunger ."
The American military commander wondered , " if Asad took his family and all his men and left Syria today , how will this country manage its issues ?"
He believes that " the Syrian opposition does not have a governing body that provide goods and services or a power able to retain the land for managing the distribution of aid and launch attacks against the regime’s forces, nor ability to counter-terrorism to eradicate groups linked to al-Qaeda in Syria then he added ," We are currently not in a way to provide these capabilities . "
The gloomy picture by Dempsey prospects for the evolution of the situation in Syria, confirmed the gloomy outlook provided by Brahimi when he announced his resignation in a press conference saying " it is very sad to leave this job and leave Syria in such a bad situation ."
Gen. Dempsey acknowledged that " the opposition is right when it says that they need quality of weapons to anti-aircraft missiles to be able to keep the land and launch counter-attacks and capacity building that it does not already own at the present time ."
However, "but such methods will only provide short-term solutions ." Describing the future of Syria as a " series of conflicts ."
Dempsey said in his speech, "We have a conflict that currently exists and there will be a second conflict is a type of internal conflict, then there will be a third conflict against terrorist organizations."
He stressed that “this case is not only in Syria but will extend to Beirut, Damascus and Baghdad.”
