Shafaq News / The Iraqi forces launched on Sunday a military operation southern Mosul city in Nineveh Governorate, days after repeated attacks by ISIS in Salahuddin and Diyala.
"The joint Iraqi forces, with the support of Iraqi air forces, launched a military operation in Kanous and other areas south of Mosul in search of the Islamic State of Iraq and Syria (ISIS) remnants ,” A security source told Shafaq News.
Local and security sources reported that the Popular Mobilization Forces (PMF) were exposed to multiple attacks by ISIS overnight in areas south of Tikrit city, the local capital of Salahuddin Governorate, which resulted in casualties among the PMF.
On Saturday evening, a force from the PMF repelled an attack by ISIS in Jisr Al-Maftoul area east of Amerli sub-district in Tuz Khurmato district of Salahuddin Governorate, at a time when MP from the governorate, Muhammad Karim Al-Baldawi warned earlier of "more dangerous" ISIS attacks that may target Religious shrines, to establish ISIS "northern state of Baghdad ".
It is noteworthy that the ISIS militants attacked on Saturday a security point of police forces in the outskirts of Al-Abaya district in Diyala Governorate, which resulted in 3 victims and 9 wounded, including civilians.
