Shafaq News / Parliamentary Legal Committee revealed, today, Wednesday, three proposed dates for early Parliamentary elections.
Committee member Yehya al-Muhammadi told Shafaq News agency that "a meeting was held today in the house of Parliament Speaker Mohammed Al-Halbousi in the presence of his first deputy Hassan Al-Kaabi and leaders of political blocs, the head and members of the legal committee and experts in election affairs," noting that the meeting "discussed the electoral districts stated in the electoral law and the quota issue.
He pointed out that “The timing of the next elections is in the government and the election commission hands," noting that "some politicians submitted several proposals for holding early elections on one of these dates, April 1, 2021, June 1, 2021, and October 1, 2021."
For his part, Speaker of Parliament Muhammad Al-Halbousi said that the assembled parties stressed the need for the government to provide full support to the Independent High Electoral Commission, in all financial, logistical and security terms to hold free and fair elections.
The Islamic Dawa Party called, earlier, for setting a "first date" for early elections not to exceed the beginning of next year 2021, and warned of a "slowdown".
