Shafaq News / An extended security meeting was held in Diyala governorate on Sunday, by security leaders, the local government and a number of provincial representatives to discuss the implications of the deteriorating security and escalating attacks in outskirts of Khanaqin district, 105 km northeast of Baquba.
The meeting discussed the reasons for the escalation of systematic terrorist attacks and the retreat of security in Khanaqin villages with security leaders in the province, stressing the agreement on several decisions and recommendations to be transmitted to the central government and security services,” A deputy of the Patriotic Union of Kurdistan (PUK) in Diyala, Sherko Mirwais told Shafaq News Agency.
He added that the meeting recommended strengthening coordination between the security forces and the Popular Mobilization Forces (PMF) and Peshmerga and the necessity of involving them in the security file in the vicinity of Khanaqin, noting that the involvement of Peshmerga in the management of Khanaqin security file needs a political decision and we will have a close meeting with the security ministries to discuss this file and reach positive results.
Khanaqin outskirts, "105 km northeast of Baquba," were subjected during the past months to accidents and attacks that caused the death and injury among civilians and security personnel, while the specialists attributed the causes of the attacks to the infiltration of terrorists fleeing from other provinces to the outskirts of Khanaqin.
Khanaqin is witnessing a clear rise in the rates of security breaches, which became almost daily after the withdrawal of Peshmerga forces 2017, which are deployed in the region and controlled by security even before their withdrawal in front of the progress of the Iraqi forces.
